I don’t think we have that parrot here down south. Is it a Superb parrot?
River is right, it is a Western Rosella and only found in a small area of WA. It is the only one to have yellow cheek patches. Adelaide Zoo has one of the largest bird collections in Australia and I rarely took photos of the placards that tell everyone what is in the enclosure. :) I have been lucky enough to see the Eastern and Crimson Rosella in the wild here, though.
I checked my Australian birds book Andrew and it doesn’t look like a superb parrot, the closest image is a Western Rosella. He is beautiful whatever he is.
Good catch, you are right, River. ;) All the Rosellas are gorgeous but for me I love the crimson, the red and purple together is just so beautiful, and we often get them in the yard here drinking out of the water bowl.
