Sunday Selections Week 32

This week in holiday photos, I’ll be taking you to visit the International Marketplace in Waikiki. This place is sadly now gone. Here is a nice article to read if you would like to know more about it. The Rise, Fall and Rebirth of Waikiki’s International Market Place.

imp11

In among the little stalls of jewellery goodness and much not made in Hawaii souvenirs as well as some true Made in Hawaii items, there was a lot of greenery thanks to the huge Banyan tree.

Would you like to join in? The rules are very simple:-
1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title
2. link back to River at Drifting Through Life, somewhere in your post
3. leave River a comment so that she knows you’ve joined in and can come over and see what you’ve posted.

Weekly Wrap Up –

I did a little bit of blog reading this week. Dawn at it just Dawned on me posted about the Tiny Kittens website, where you can watch kittens being born and mothered. Currently I have seen two live cams there – Tip and Sisko who is a feral cat and therefore won’t be bothered by humans eg cleaning the bedding etc..

Snoskred On Holidays

Just a reminder – Snoskred is taking a holiday from the blog. My Aunt and Uncle are here visiting, The Other Half has holidays booked, and my intention is to put the laptop away for most of, if not the entire, time.

You probably won’t see comments from me on your blogs while I’m on holidays. It is not you, it is me. ;) I just need a break.

I probably will not be keeping up with my reading, meaning I will return to a lot of posts to read. So you might get comments on older posts from me when I return.

I’ve got photo posts scheduled for the next two weeks, but I am giving you a holiday as well – I’ll be turning off the comments on my posts..

I’ll be back on Monday the 17th of August. :)

Remember, Snoskred is on holiday at the moment. Comments are turned off.

Weekly Wrap Up –

On the home front, there is good news and not so good news. GOOD: We now have two areas of concrete laid. BAD: The trouble is, there is one area missing, and it is the most important one, the part that connects the driveway to the new concrete. Our cars will be sitting out the front for at least another week. :(

On Wednesday I went with a friend to watch Take That Live. These guys always put on a fantastic show but I usually have to wait for the DVDs to come out. It was amazing seeing the concert on the big screen. There were, admittedly, only 6 of us there, so chances are it will never happen again.

You can find unusual upcoming screenings via the Advanced Tickets page, and also, the Alternate Cinema page.

If you like Pink Floyd, this one might be for you.

Before posting the links, I will like to say this. Bloggers, there is a way to make your post titles in capitals without actually having to use capitals via CSS. It is called uppercase. I’ve been re-writing post titles to remove the caps, and I’m done doing that. I’m just going to post them in caps from now on.. no offence meant!

Perhaps I can convince Sephy to create a how to guide for that one day. I talked him into writing a how to guide for Tunnelbear, which people might be interested to read. You know when you go to a US or UK website and it says “this content is not available in your region”? Tunnelbear is your solution. Licensing agreements, piffle to you!

How To: Use TunnelBear – I use Tunnelbear regularly to watch everything from tv trailers to video clips.

Last Words: Six Things to Say When Someone is Dying – While I am hopeful I won’t have to be saying these things anytime soon, I do want to point out that saying them now to the person(s) you love is worth doing. I wrote about being that person and saying those important things to people.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE! NEW PHOTO RELEASED AND TWO YEARS OF GEORGE’S BEST EXPRESSIONS – This is a beautiful post well worth clicking through to read.. :)

MORE MUSHROOM LOVE – MY SPEEDY, SIMPLE MUSHROOM PATE – I have been cooking mushrooms for lunch every single day this week and I think maybe this mushroom pate might be worth a try. It would spice up my cheese and crackers nicely, I think.

Roasted Asparagus and Mushroom Carbonara – this sounds incredible!

Last week I showed you Yananyi Dreaming in Sunday Selections Week 29 – I spoke about how Your Religious Beliefs Are Yours. – and told you about some shows I have been revisiting in Television Tuesday – Old Shows.

Weekly Wrap Up –

On Friday this week, I received the best SMS ever from my Aunt. I’m going to share it with you, plus my reply.

Hi Sparkles just wanted to let you know scans I had came back showing NO cancer so I’m in remission according to my doctor.

FYI Sparkles is my nickname because I am usually wearing at least one sparkly item. :) My reply went like this –

What a happy moment! Yay. There are no suitable words for this news. I may have to get out the thesaurus.

I’m taking a week off from the weekly wrap up this week. I did not feel very inspired to save links this week. I’ve had yet another cold and I am losing my patience for pretty much everything at this point. :) Though that SMS cheered me up enormously.

My Aunt is coming up to visit in early August, so I’m wondering whether I should put together a celebration package or just put together a gift bag for when she gets here. I am leaning towards the latter because my last package took over a month to arrive. I posted it the same day I posted a package to Sephyroth and he received his within a week, and his package went from Australia to the USA!

Weekly Wrap Up –

One of the scam posts I did is a gift that keeps on giving.. there have been thousands of views to that post since I first posted it. Some days nobody posts a comment on it, and then some days there are 5-10 new comments on the post. Some days maybe 20-30 people view it, and some days 200-300 people view it, and one day this week over 800 people viewed it..

Here at home, we are all set for concreting to happen, however the weather being so cold they have put the job off because concrete will crack if it gets too cold while it is setting. This means the cars are stuck out the front of the house which is not a comfortable situation for me.

Weekly Wrap Up –

This week has been an interesting one in Snoskredland. We discovered that we did not have a sewer leak or a pipe leak but we likely had found a natural spring given the lack of rain here just lately..

I went on a shopping trip with the parents during which I FOUND MY KNIT at Millers and it is absolutely stunning! I did not see it on the website. I will show it to you this Wednesday.

Then in the latter half of the week, the contractors arrived to do preparations for our new driveway, and our cars have had to be parked out the front since Thursday which meant I cleaned out every single item, even from the gloveboxes, because we have a bit of a problem with car window smashing around here.

aanew01

This week we will revisit a little area in my house, which I have made a small change to recently. You’ve seen this area before in these posts – my paper weight where I showed you this cabinet was damaged on the top – Before and After where I added a table runner I had recently rediscovered to the top.

aanew5

River commented on that post that she preferred the area without the table runner and I have to say I did agree with her. I had just wanted to hide that damaged section and the table runner was available, but I did want to buy a piece of material in a lighter colour – perhaps white, I thought – to cover the damage.

aanew2

We had gone to visit Candleberries in Berry and we each got a large new candle, and on the way home I suggested we stop in at Spotlight to pick up some material. I spoke with the other half about a piece of white velvet or velour, and he said white would not be a good choice, I’d be forever washing it. So we ended up deciding on silver. I think it turned out pretty well. :) It almost looks like molten silver.

Weekly Wrap Up –

What an amazing week it has been for those who believe in love, with the US Supreme Court ruling that it is legal for all Americans, no matter their gender or sexual orientation, to marry the people they love. I will hope that Australia will follow suit sooner than later. If you did not read the ruling, you should make sure to read this one part of it – The Beautiful Closing Paragraph of Justice Kennedy’s Gay Marriage Ruling.

Here at home, I’ve still been recovering from this cold and with the ditch digger arriving I lost all track of time and forgot to schedule todays post as a surprise to myself. I had most of it written, because I write it during the week as I find links I like.

Posts Snoskred Enjoyed –

How Death and Dying Changed My Perspective on LGBT Rights – This was always my biggest reason why marriage should be legal for same-sex couples – this, and the situations where life partners were essentially locked out of making health decisions for their loved ones, on occasion being replaced by family members who had disowned their gay family member years before and who would have zero idea of the health wishes of that gay family member.

Jaws at 40: Steven Spielberg on the blockbuster that made him — and nearly ruined him – This was an interesting read.

We went back in time a little with Art Time Travel.

We checked in on Carter – Carter & Happy – WW, plus I told you about my Improbable Kitty.

Anxiety Level: High – A ditch digger arrived. And thus we now have a leaking (sewer?) pipe. But it totally wasn’t The Other Half’s fault – we could tell it has been leaking for some time. This might explain a weird noise we get in the pipes when it rains..

Weekly Wrap Up –

Many years ago I used to do a weekly wrap up here on the blog. It went on holiday in November of 2007 and it must have been a very long holiday, perhaps around the world on a very slow boat! Weekly Wrap Ups – On Holidays!

Weekly wrap ups have gone on holidays for the month of November. They are likely sunning themselves on a beach somewhere. Fear not, because I am still keeping links, and there will be a monthly wrap up instead this month.

But Why?

Well in case you didn’t notice November is a busy month, and I haven’t been well so I missed last week. I’ve been feeling like the wrap up is a chore for a little while now and not as many people as I thought click on the links. Perhaps I need to change it up a bit, write better descriptions or things to interest people in the links. I’m trying a new, potentially easier way of keeping links which I’ll let everyone know about, if it works out.

Now What?

I’ll be back later today with something potentially interesting, so drop back then. :) In the meantime if you’re Australian and you have not seen LOLPOLs yet, you may want to check it out. Just be warned, don’t put the pics on slideshow and eat or drink anything during it. I almost covered my screen in water when I saw this one. My absolute favourite? This one. The look in that baby’s eyes!
