This will not come as a surprise.

Ms Rein has made the decision to sell the Australian part of her business, because her husband wants to be Prime Minister more than he wants to back her up as a husband. Oh, she probably wants to redecorate the Lodge herself, so it’s not an entirely selfless choice, however it shows that an ambitious man can be the downfall of a highly successful woman. It was predictable and we all saw this one coming a mile off, but I cannot disguise my disgust.

As yet there seems to be no outcry of outraged women, which is highly surprising to me. Could it be all the feminists vote Labor and they don’t want to say anything for fear of losing yet another in a long string of elections to a man who honestly looks like he should be on the muppet show?

What is right is what is right, regardless of which party you support. The fact that Kevin has not said – she made a mistake but her business concerns have nothing to do with me as a politician and we’ll put whatever procedures in place to make sure everything is 100% above board and nobody can have any complaints of favoritism or whatever. She’s my wife, this is her business, and I don’t give a shit how politically damaging her mistakes in business can be to me, because I’m a man with a set of balls who can stand up for himself and say hey, leave my wife alone. You want to pick on someone? Pick on me.

However, he did not do that, and what he’s saying to everyone by the course he is taking is – you win. You want to pick on anyone else in my family? I’ll convince them to give up whatever you want if it means I can have the top job. Bully me some more, it’s fine. It’s perfectly ok, because I’m going to cave whenever I have to just to shut you people up.

Ms Rein, this choice you have made is absolutely a backward step for women in this country.

If I were Kevin’s Wife..

Apparently Kevin Rudd is going to have a “discussion” with his wife about whether or not she can continue to be a part of a business she created that has made her a millionaire. It’s yet another complete f*ck up in a long line of f*ck ups from a man who seemed to hold so much promise as the new leader of the Labor party. Kevin seems to be steering the Liberal party to yet another victory with his utter stupidity.

He has said the following –

“This one is tough because it affects her and her future,”

“I love my wife dearly and she’s built this up from scratch.

“So do you turn around and say: `Well, that’s the end of that, sweetheart’, or do you do it differently?”

“It’s a very hard decision to say to someone prior to an election – and we don’t know who’s going to win the election – `Offload the business’.

“This is the age of professional women who run their own companies, who have their own lives, and are not simply appendages of middle-aged men.”

I think she should turn around and say, thanks, it’s been fun, your stuff is all in garbage bags by the kerb, have a nice life, by the way you’re getting NONE of my money. It’s fairly clear from the quote above in purple that he thinks she is just an appendage who will do whatever he tells her to so he can have a better chance of winning the top job.

Hello? Women make up a large percentage of people in this country. Piss us off, and you’ve got f*ck all chance of winning the meat raffle at the local pub let alone the federal election. He may have a chick as his deputy but really K-Rudd may be all about keeping the women in the kitchen where they belong if it interferes with his job. It’ll be interesting to see what happens – I’m betting she has to give up her company. If he makes her do that, it’s all over for the Labor party as far as winning an election, so she’ll be jobless, and so will he.

Challenge complete!

A couple of days ago I challenged Sephy to cook a recipe, and it is already done, click here to read his post about it.. He’s fast as well as a great cook. ;) So, if you have a quick and easy recipe that you would like either Sephy (and/or myself) to cook and post about, feel free to set a challenge on your blog and then comment and let us know. Just be aware that I don’t really eat red meat, but Sephy does.

When I make that recipe I like to buy chicken tenderloins which you can really just throw into the marinade but if you’re a picky eater like me I tend to cut the very tops off them. It doesn’t go to waste, I fry any cut offs up for the kitties. Also, a lime tip – put your limes in the microwave on a piece of paper towel for 30 seconds – it makes them juicier. Or something. I really can’t recall precisely why I do that or where I got the tip from.

The West Wing at lunchtime has long been a habit of mine, good to see it’s contagious even across oceans. ;)

Email Shenanigans

I got an email some time ago, but it only just *arrived* in my inbox today. That’s because Gmail put it in the spam box. I wish I could delete the spam box. :( I don’t usually check the box associated with this blog, it forwards to my main account. When I went in there today to reply to a mail that had missed the spam box, there were 305 spam emails sitting there. Its only by luck that this mail didn’t get deleted because usually gmail deletes the spam after 30 days.

It was from someone who reads this blog politely requesting a blog link trade. I went over and read his blog and I really liked it, so it’s now in the list of blogs I read which happens to be way down in the sidebar. I must clean that out soon. The owner of it wisely is not giving his real name – if only everyone on the internet were so careful! ;)

I have been so incredibly not good about putting all the links I want to put in my sidebar. You guys, I read like 129 blogs in my google reader. I have not linked to them all. I just don’t have time, I am really busy with projects – and reading blogs, by the look of things. ;)

There may be a new project which I will want to talk about here some, soon. It’s a task I have put off and put off for ages, but now I am beginning to accept that this task must be done in order for there to be a decent future.

Topics on my mind..

There’s a lot of stuff which I’ve thought I should blog about lately but none of these posts have happened. For example –

The spiders in that kid’s ears! It’s freaking me out people. I have heard that rice krispy noise in there before!

Unions. The labor scheme to sell out workers to unions concerns me. For obvious reasons.

I was once a member of a union. It was ok, not really that much money to pay and it had some good benefits, but the idea of *forcing* anyone to be a member of a union is not a good one IMO. And I hate the way Union people call those who aren’t in the union “scabs”. It’s a matter of personal choice whether someone wants to pay union fees or not. To call them names for choosing not to, that bothers me.

It bothers me that the Labor of today is still linked with these people who choose pressure and bullying as decent tactics in a work place. I think they really need to stand away from all that – otherwise the Libs will get in again. Not that I think that is a bad thing, all political parties have their good points and their bad points.

I got some Emerald Green paint because I seem to suck at mixing green, and some sealer the other day.

There’s a new house in the area we like which we might be able to look at. It’s $20 more than we pay now. That’s not so good. But it is in the street we love and might be big enough.

Aussies TAKE NOTE..

Tomorrow evening, a new show is launching on the ABC. It’s called The Sideshow, and it stars Paul Mcdermott. It will be funny. :) And Paul will be nice to look at, as always. And he’ll probably sing, which is also very pleasing to the ear.

And then about an hour later, the last of the West Wing is on.

I’m really tired at the moment. These school holidays have been two weeks from hell, in fact so bad I’m seriously talking with the other half about moving because I can’t take much more. So I think I’ll get an early night and maybe tomorrow if we get up really early even though it’s the weekend we can go snorkelling without 50 zillion kids screaming. I truly need some peace and quiet.

This one might be controversial.

I’m firmly of the opinion that if you want to stop school shootings, you need to stop people being able to get guns. Full stop.

What disturbs me when I look at those images of many people holding candles and sobbing like they knew the people involved which many of them do not, is that I know at least *some* of those people would turn around and defend the guy’s right to bear arms.

I’m not an American. And I certainly do not wish to preach at people who are hurting and in shock, but the ONLY way to stop this from happening in the future is to take away the guns. He could not have killed as many people with a knife or any other weapon, could he?

Think about it for a minute. The bill of rights which gave people the right to keep and bear arms was written in the early 1790’s.

Can you even consider what life was like then? Do you think the people who wrote it could honestly consider what life would be like now? Do you think they could foresee the rapper gansta’s who go around shooting each other? Do you think they would have considered that at any time in the future, homicide would become a leading cause of death in their country? Do people today need to defend their homes with weapons? Is it likely a grizzly is going to turn up on your doorstep?

If you want to change things you won’t do it with a candle and tears. You can only do it by changing MINDS.

And as far as the killer being a monster or evil or mentally deranged or any of those things – I firmly suggest you get a copy of The Gift Of Fear by Gavin De Becker. If you live in the US, you NEED this book. It very well could save your life.

Yes, it’s a sad and terrible thing what happened to those poor kids who were only trying to get their educations. It’s a sad and terrible thing that someone who was so young and seemingly had so many issues was able to get access to a weapon and then go on a killing spree. It has happened before. It won’t stop. This won’t be the last time. It will happen again.

Stop and think about this for a minute. If 9/11 was able to change things to such an extent – the patriot act, the airport security, many and varied changes across a wide landscape, why can’t this inspire the same kind of change?

When a person’s right to get an education and to live long enough to do so is directly at odds with a person’s right to bear arms, what happens?

If your country gave this man the right to bear arms, isn’t something very wrong here?

Only one thing spoiled it.

My wonderful lunch today, which is pictured in the below post. Yes, those noisy kids from across the road. *sigh*

Actually my day started off not brilliantly to begin with. At just after 9am (I went to bed after 3am) the lawnmower man started up his lawnmower right outside my window. I thought right, there’s no point trying to go back to sleep here, so I got up and stumbled out to the computer, where I found unpleasantness I don’t even want to speak about. Someone showing their ass, yet again. And to be honest, they don’t have that great an ass. I mean, I wouldn’t mind if it looked like a male model or something. And the lawnmower man wasn’t the cute buff one but the older string beany type one, so there wasn’t an ass around to make up for the terrible ass I had to look at.

So then I stumble back to bed, wanting to get some more sleep, but none arrived. And the alarm my other half set without telling me went off, so I figured I might as well get up.

Then, as I am sitting here, I can hear those noisy kids. They’re outside running around screaming and shouting. Sure, it’s great exercise, but there is a *park* not very far away and I’d prefer they take it there where it’s not in my face. Then I sit down with my excellent lunch to watch episode one of season 3 of the west wing, and it’s noticeable, I can hear it above the noise of the surround sound system. I turn the volume up. I can still hear it.

Then I venture to the front door to notice that they have actually moved over to MY lawn to play on. Hello? Do I live here? Then they start to play cricket on my driveway. I try the Metallica trick. *IT DOES NOT WORK*. I think because their parents were not at home to drag them to their bibles. AND WHAT KIND OF PARENTS ARE LEAVING KIDS OF THIS AGE AT HOME ALONE? We’re talking all under the age of 7. Cricket balls are bouncing off fences randomly making a hell of a racket. I need peace!

Not only that, these kids clearly not having any intelligence, they decide to play cricket *across* the road. AND NO PARENT TO STOP THEM!

So I’m in a pretty bad mood today, despite my wonderful lunch. They went on all afternoon. Please, end the school holidays early. I can’t take anymore!

So someone tell me, what am I supposed to do about this?

1. Confront the across the road neighbours about their noisy kids. Hmm, not likely to end well.
2. Call the police each time they are being noisy. Hmm, waste of police resources.
3. Start looking for somewhere else to live, somewhere peaceful, quiet, out in the country.
4. Put a note in their letterbox asking them to please have more consideration for the people who live nearby and not allow their children to run amok like wild animals, and also point out they may get run over if they are not more careful of that road. Suggest they use the park, a safe place to play, instead.
Any other options?

Another Saturday Night..

Another couple of West Wing episodes. And whoa, is about all I can say. This possibly blog won’t make a lot of sense to non-WW fans.

A few weeks ago Sephy was in the middle of the 2nd season, and I said to him something like, an episode will come to you as a surprise and you’ll know what I mean by that when it happens. The episode I was talking about in that case was 18th and Potomac, where they just out of nowhere, completely out of the blue, kill off a much loved character. In the episode after it, there is a point where the killed off character makes an appearance as a ghost, kind of, which also is much unexpected.

Tonight’s episode was another one of those but on a larger scale. And when they go into the funeral service, you see all the faces of people who seem to have gone their separate ways, doing their different jobs, some still at the whitehouse and others not, and the only face missing was Sam. I kept expecting to see him but he didn’t show up. Apparently he shows up next week.

There’s still a big gap between where my DVD box sets ran out and the show as it is today, and I am really looking forward to finding out how the show gets from there to the show I saw tonight.

I need a nap..

Grr kids across the road woke me up this morning, shouting, yelling and screaming while waiting for the school bus. I’d had maybe 5 hours sleep. I wasn’t going to get up but then I did, and now it’s almost 5pm and I have chores to do but am having trouble staying awake. I certainly am not up to writing anything intelligent, so check back tomorrow for more Internet Safety. Maybe I will have a nap, but the trouble is once I go to sleep there’s no waking me up until I’m done sleeping. Maybe I can get those kids to start shouting and screaming a couple of hours from now, which would wake me up. Maybe.
