Where Do Your Shoes Live?

Sometimes the best ideas come to you as a surprise via the blog posts of other people. Suger from Suger Coat It wrote a post called – The triumphant return of the sneaker – and I commented – This inspires me to start a weekly feature about sneakers. I have so many pairs!

But then I thought, why limit it to one kind of shoe? Why not have a weekly shoe post? Each pair of shoes will receive a good cleaning in preparation for being posted – and the other half is Building Me A Photography Box especially for this project.

But before I begin this new blog feature – which will start on Sunday next week, I want to show you where my shoes live – and invite you to join me and show the world where your shoes live.

Drumroll…….

I will like to take you inside my Accessory Room.

Before you even open the door, there is a Scarf Bar –

scarfbar1

This is a simple thing to create – some over the door hooks and you too can have a scarf bar. I got mine from Aldi but a lot of places stock over the door hooks. Some of the hooks are holding more than one scarf which is super handy.

scarfbar2

If you don’t have a lot of room but you do have a lot of scarves, this is a simple yet great way to store them, all you need is a door and some over the door hooks.

costcopaper1

The door to this room is usually left open because this is also Paper Goods From Costco Nirvana. I am not running out of toilet paper, paper towel, or tissues anytime soon. And to this I say, Jesse Pinkman Style, YEAH BITCH, COSTCO! because if there is one thing I hate, it is running out of essentials like that. ;)

jewellery1

On the back of the door there is a Jewellery Organiser which also holds spare phone cases. Spot the Swarovski one for my old iPhone there? It is sparkly. :) I also have a Swarovski one for the present phone.

handbags2

Inside the room there is a Jewellery Cupboard – which also doubles as a Handbag Storage Unit, and holder of the Super Holographic Duct Tape. Yes, I like it when things have more than one use. It is extra useful! And here is a sneak peek inside.

jewellery2

And now we arrive at the Shoe Cupboard. It is usually closed, to keep Dust away from The Shoes.

kipling2

The big green bag on the outside is a Kipling backpack – I have a matching suitcase which also resides in the Accessory room.

kipling1

And now, back to the shoes. Let us open the Shoe Cupboard.

handbags3

Before we get an overview of the shoes, I will take out the Handbags, which have found a home in between two shoe racks.

shoes0

That is a lot of shoes. Many of which do not get worn as often as I would like.

shoes1

Rack one – there is no order in which they are stored, it is just wherever they fit they ended up.

shoes2

And there are still some shoes in Other Places because they did not fit in this cupboard –

othershoes

And, a bag’o’shoes which I am contemplating giving away.

shoes3

There are enough shoes for a full year of shoe posts, so this will become a weekly feature and I invite other bloggers to join in as well. Everyone is welcome to join in. Just add your link by clicking on the blue add link button – I’ve also put a quick how to guide together below if you have never joined a link up before.

Don’t Tell Me That!

hi2

An actual conversation held with the other half on the way to grocery shopping last week..

OH – (groans with pain) “I’m getting old.”

Snoskred – “No you’re not!”

OH – “I’m 42 this year, remember?”

Snoskred – “No, you can’t be 42.. the maths does not work. There’s only 3 years between us, not 4.”

OH – “You were 39 last birthday.”

Snoskred – “I AM SO NOT 39! I only just updated my age on my blog this week and I’m 38!”

OH – “I hate to tell you, but you are 39. Do the maths.”

Snoskred – “But you know I failed maths! I don’t wanna do maths!”

(minutes pass while The Other Half does the maths out loud in excruciating detail for me and it does turn out he is right)

OH – “… and so, you see, you are in fact 39.. and this means next year you will be 40”

Snoskred – “DON”T TELL ME THAT!!! It is bad enough I have been 39 for 3 months and didn’t know it! And now I have to update my about me box and page, again!”

So, I updated those things, again. :)

~ Coconut Mango Chicken ~

There is something you don’t know about me. I figure I should just come clean and admit it.

…………. drumroll

I secretly hoard recipes on the internet in my bookmarks folder.

Currently I have 170 of them.

And this does not count recipes I have printed and stashed in the kitchen in various locations.

I know. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. You probably bookmark recipes in your travels too.

What *is* wrong is, I rarely make any of these recipes.

I am essentially bookmarking them in the event that *one day* I might get around to it. Some of them are extremely complicated and demand kitchen skills I do not possess.

But one of the blogs I read – Casual Kitchen – posts a lot of easy to make, quick and simple recipes that I have made and do make. Today Daniel posted links to two really awesome posts which contain 25 recipes each and if you cannot find one thing there to try, then you are probably a kitchen wizard or a TV chef. :)

Who Is It?

The Year Of Me is more difficult for the people around me than it is for me.

Sometimes people will want you to change. They will tell you how they want you to be. They will call it growing up or making progress or something like that. They will use words like “Assertive” “Honest” “Open” in combination with “be more”..

When you do what they want, they quickly discover that what they actually wanted was for you to stay the same. And then they get all bent out of shape because you did what they asked you to do and became who they said they wanted you to be!

So, what does Me do when that happens? Does Me turn back the clock and go back to who Me was before, or does Me say to that person.. get used to this Me, forget the old Me.

I’m not going back. No way. No how. I’m feeling comfortable in this new skin. This is who I am now. :)

2013 : The Year Of Me

Here are some of my goals for this “year of me” I have declared. They are in two categories – goals I would like to achieve by the end of January, and goals I would like to achieve by the end of 2013 –

Goals for January 2013 –

– A visit to the doctor

– Blood tests to check thyroid function

– Gym every single work day for minimum 25 mins of cardio

– Add on one non work day to make 10 days at the gym in the fortnight

– Personal training session x1 to see if there is anything more I could be doing fitness wise

– Investigate laser hair removal (fed up with waxing!)

– sort out work (when I am available, when I am most definitely not)

– Pay off the credit card (I have enough in savings to do this right now but then that negates the point of savings, lol. It isn’t that much, less than $500)

That seems like a lot for one month, no? So what about the rest of the year?

– take no shit from anyone

– speak up when necessary

– weight loss goal of 20kg

– couch to 5k – make the 5k happen

– get some decent health insurance

– get sinus fixed (I suspect this will mean surgery)

– purge items which are no longer required in my life (got a lot of junk I can throw out/donate)

– save $4,000 (I could make it 5200 but I think some of the above is going to cut into this goal)

I may add to this list as time goes on – I think we’ll check in on it once a month looking at what has been achieved so far, and maybe each month set some monthly goals for that particular month. It is easier to break it down on a month by month basis.

Still very little movement on the scales. We’d be looking at 1.5kg loss for the last month, but I have lost that same 1.5 kg a couple of times now. This is why I think I need to get things checked out. It should not be this hard to lose the weight, I have never had any trouble in the past.

Ok yes I am older now than I ever have been before, but I know I am working very hard at the gym and watching what I eat and not seeing the results I think I should be seeing. In fact I did better the week where I did not watch what I ate at all, and also went to Outback Steakhouse for a high calorie food coma meal!

Anyway gotta run, if you are making a goals for 2013 post, link to it in my comments ;)

Where has Snoskred been?

I was stuck in Hawaii for 3 weeks after my Dad had emergency surgery over there. The last couple weeks since getting back have been a little busy to say the least with work going into busy mode for the Christmas season etc.

I’ll get around to telling you more about that, and about life changes I’m going to be making as a result of what has happened, when I have more time. Which will likely be in the new year..

Have a very Merry Christmas, and all that. ;)

A Paddle Boat

When I lived back in Adelaide, we were living within a short distance of West Lakes. I always used to love seeing the (manmade) water there. My dream at the time was to live in a house with a little pier and to have a paddle boat to paddle around the lakes with.

So a few years later, a completely different state, a completely new life that I did not anticipate, and I still want a paddle boat. Though not quite the same kind. I want me a Kayak. To be specific, a Hobie Mirage Outfitter.

This from the girl who never swam in the sea until a year ago for fear of sharks. This from the girl who went kayaking for the first time about a week ago and was utterly terrified by it because we couldn’t get the kayak to go where we wanted it to go. It wasn’t a Hobie, it was a cheap crappy double kayak that we hired and the darn thing was like a shopping trolley that refused to go straight.

Did you know you can get kayaks with pedals as well as “paddles”? Seriously there is some amazing kayak technology going on from Hobie.

Tomorrow we test drive the one we intend to buy, and hopefully will have it by the weekend. w00t! Of course I’ll post pics. :)

There is much going on in my life at present, much of which cannot be blogged about. Community volunteer work,  the other half on holidays and actually smiling for a change, an exercise bike, roast chickens, kitties being cute, blog design, and filing cabinets. There is much I want to tell you and I hope to have some time to do that soon!

Where Is Snoskred?

It’s insane here at the moment – The Other Half is on holidays. I have been busy working on a community project or ten. I’m also behind with my posting ahead of time.

The Thought Of The Day is taking a little holiday – it will return soon. ;) I usually write an entire month’s worth in one sitting and then WordPress just posts them for me daily, but I don’t see a chance for doing that until Friday or so.

And I have a confession to make.. I am obsessed with Dexter. I will write a post about that soon.. ;)
