West Wing Special ends!

So yesterday I finished season one, and am currently leaving myself on a cliffhanger. I don’t know how long I’ll be hanging from the cliff, I do know that if I had been watching this on TV and had to wait the six months inbetween seasons that is normally left here, I would surely be going insane waiting. They left us with people shooting at the President and staff..

Lucky for me, I have season two sitting right there on the table, and so anytime I choose to stop hanging on the cliff, I can just put the DVD in. ;)

However I noted that the specials at JB Hifi for the West Wing would end on January 15th, and when I checked the price elsewhere it put a bit of panic into me – the usual price is $114.99. That’s what they sell it for everywhere else. When I checked the JB website yesterday it said there were 17 hours left on the special which didn’t quite work out right. However we thought we could go back today and get seasons 3,4 and 5 at the special price.

Then I checked the website this morning, and panic set in when I found the price had gone back to $114.99 at 2:15am! I grabbed the phone and called them right away, asked them to check the price, they still had it as $32.95 so I asked them to put those aside for me. By the time we drove there due to summer nitwit holiday traffic, the price had gone up on their system, lucky I called. She had to over-ride the price..

And now, I can watch seasons 2,3,4 and 5 in my own time, peacefully, as I like to. This is kick ass.. :)

If you can get the seasons for $32-33, I recommend you do so without delay.

I also took back the broken juice jug, so it was quite a good trip, but it took a lot longer than usual due to idiots on the road who seem to have forgotten how to drive at all.

And now we’re debating whether or not to go snorkelling. The weather looks nice, so we might just go.

How can I stop?

One of the reasons I prefer to watch things on paytv if I can, is because they have set start and end times. Give me a DVD box set, say perhaps of an excellent show like The West Wing, and I might sit there and watch the pilot, and just one more, and just one more.. It’s good enough I could watch the entire 22 episode season in one sitting.

How did I miss watching this when it was on TV, again? Oh that’s right, the assholes at channel 9. ;) who played it whenever they felt like it. Well guess who’s in charge now? ;)

(I bought season two as well, just in case I needed it)

(and judging from current observations, I might, in a couple of days)

Free To Air TV.

You may be already aware of my dislike for free to air television, I’ve blogged about it before. I don’t even know how to put on the free to air channels in this house. I have Austar and I love it.

Recently there’s been one hour a day when I drop everything I am doing and sit down in front of the TV – I am watching The West Wing. This is another show that has been around for ages but I have never seen much of it thanks to Channel Nein and their constant love of fucking with the minds, hearts and scheduling timetables of their viewers. They loved to schedule a show at 10:30pm at night but they rarely played it at 10:30pm at night, sometimes the show would be 10, 20, or even a full 30 minutes late, and often it would not play at all, just to keep everyone surprised and on their toes.

Arena TV on Austar plays the show weekdays at 1am then repeats it on their +2 channel at 3am. So I really can’t miss it without making a big effort. This is what I need from a TV station. I need set times so I can commit to watching something. The free to air tv stations are often surprised when something does not rate, well how can it when nobody knows when it is supposed to be on? They need to commit so I can commit.

I am considering getting the whole series on DVD in fact, I am enjoying it so much. And it’s on special, the first series is just under $25. But the trouble with being given the power of the dvd box set is, I can’t stop at just one episode. I know this, I’ve done this with other series.

I have no idea where they are up to in the general scheme of west wing or even which season I am watching but at this stage that’s fine, I’m just enjoying the excellent acting and the very witty writing.

A confession..

This may turn out to be the lamest post ever on this blog but I’m going to admit it.

The last few nights, at midnight, after the other half has gone to bed, I’ve been secretly bawling my eyes out. And the reason why is..

adrg

They’ve been re-running the episodes where Dr Mark Greene dies.

What is it about Anthony Edwards that makes him so capable of creating characters who, when they die, you just can’t help but cry? Is there anyone reading this who did not shed a tear when Goose was killed in Top Gun? If there is, probably you didn’t see the movie, right? And that was a short movie, ER was 177 episodes.

goose

It’s not just about the character of Dr Greene, it was about the history of the show. I was a fan of the show from the beginning and to watch the relationships build between Dr Green and people like Carter was a thing of beauty. And I guess because I knew the show so well, I recognised a lot of the things they did during these final Dr Greene episodes, the passing of the baton from Dr Greene to Dr Carter, the scenes which were in the pilot where Dr Carter said the exact same things to a new medical student that Dr Greene had once said to him so many years before. The little things that mean a lot.

So when they played all these episodes the first time, it was on channel Nine (we call it Nein here) and really they messed it up, they played episodes out of order, they would play a new one one week, and the next week just grab any old episode to drag out the season. It didn’t really have much impact on me. In fact I didn’t manage to catch all the episodes. So much did I miss, that I thought the pay tv people were playing them out of order! But I have checked, and they are in order.

Anyway, I don’t think any of this will make much sense to someone who wasn’t a fan of the show, or to people who didn’t like Dr Greene as a character. And it’s not like it’s making me sad when the show itself isn’t on. And it’s just tv, and this is just a character and not a real person, and terrible things happen to people every day, and stuff. But I figured I would mention it, try to get it out of my system or something.

What I loved most about Dr Greene as a character was his compassion, his patience, and his passion. So I’m sad that they killed him off when he decided to leave the show. And I didn’t really watch much of the show after that happened. But I have some of the DVD’s – seasons one and two, which are just incredible writing wise and acting wise etc – and also contain George Clooney and Julianna Margulies and all the other good cast members, and you could tell they were all enjoying what they were doing as far as making this series. They’re so cheap now, I might collect the rest of the series, up until his departure anyway.

So goodbye, Dr Greene.. when that song by Iz cuts in at 2:56, that is when I haz a sad.

Sorry the video is not the best, I had to replace it when the previous one was taken down. :)

Today is Sunday

Everybody loves Sunday, yeah? Except every day is like Sunday to me now, being that I don’t have to work and all. ;) I just realised though, reading the usual blogs, I missed Australian Idol tonight. That’s mainly because I haven’t been watching it regularly so I’m not wound up like an alarm clock that rings when it turns up on the tv ;) But I was kind of looking forward to laughing hysterically at Bobby Flynn again. I’ll just have to wait till it gets uploaded to youtube I guess.

I watched Priscilla Queen Of The Desert with commentary track last night, it was great. I am thinking I might go watch Apollo 13 with the Jim and Marilyn Lovell commentary track. ;) Just recharging the cordless bluetooth headset which I watch tv with when the other half is sleeping ;)

Karma Police

This song I had never heard before Toby Rand performed it on Rock Star : Supernova. It’s kind of got stuck in my head. Not as much as the Lukas songs have, but from time to time this just turns up. And really, I think one of the lyrics speak of scambaiting. ;) “This is what you get : When you mess with us”

Realistically, people do not realise just how good we scambaiters are at digging up information. People also do not realise just how much information they have put on the internet about themselves. Go google yourself. Google the names you use on forums. Google your email address. Google anything you can think of that might relate to you. And while I may be one of the world’s worst googlers, I have scambaiter friends(seriously if you are looking for something Sephy is the man to ask) who are the world’s best googlers.

Even if they can’t find a script for Clear and Present Danger online, mainly because it *isn’t* online anywhere, given enough info they can track you down.. ooo be wary when you mess with us.

I miss rock star, don’t ya’all? I keep watching things on you tube so I can get my Lukas Rossi fix..

Mystery Solved..

And now I just have to try and keep it together and *not* mention all my irrational fears repeatedly. Everything will be fine. People go on overseas trips all the time and come back not much different to when they left. Yes, even to countries like Thailand. At least it’s not Bali. At least he’s not flying Garuda or Korean or some dodgy airline. Yes, he will be flying on the 11th of September, and it is the five year anniversary of that event. keep it together!

They sent all the itinerary and ticket info and stuff through tonight, it’s really exciting. I think he might be starting to get excited and he did not once mention how dodgy he thinks Thailand is or any concerns that he’s been speaking about for some days now.

Tonight I was watching Rock Star and they had this ad for shows they will be running on the 11th and it was then I realised that he’s flying that day. I’ve done it before, and so have other members of the family. It’s nothing to freak out about. Had things worked out as planned, we could have been flying out from London on that date, which would have been a bit of a worry.

I didn’t like to see Ryan go home, and I have no idea what Dilana was doing tonight but that was a terrible performance. I could see Supernova didn’t like it at all.

Done with Dilana.

I just watched this week’s Reality Webisode for Rockstar Supernova.

After Dilana got roasted by the judges for talking trash about her fellow rockers, she went back to the mansion and had a complete meltdown. At one point she threw a glass, and it smashed everywhere, and glass was flying, and Magni got cut in the head with it.

At the end of all of this, she said and I quote “I’m not a loser, I’m not a quitter, this horrific thing that happened to me is the best thing that happened to me.”

Let’s get it straight – nothing HAPPENED to you, Dilana. You opened your mouth and bitched and backstabbed and said all kinds of nasty things. That’s not an act of God or someone else. YOU did it. YOU happened to YOU. You then couldn’t handle the repercussions, and you HURT someone else physically because of your actions.

I was a big fan of yours, but that’s all over. I’m sorry but there’s no way you can handle this job. I sincerely hope you end up in the bottom three, and Supernova send you home, straight up, no second chances.
