Men I love to watch – Rob Lowe

People asked for it, and now here it is.

Rob Lowe is an excellent example of a man who actually gets more attractive as he ages. Not that he wasn’t cute when he was young. But it is very difficult to find images of him when he was young on the net and I’m not sure why. Maybe it is because the older him is so cute.

However most people now associate him with the West Wing and the excellent job he did on that show. Any fan will tell you he was one of the major characters that made the show what it was, and when he left the show there was a hole not easily filled.

For the Aussies reading this, many of you did not see the West Wing because Channel 9 really screwed around with airing it but you do not have to stay in the dark. The show was brilliant and can now be bought from JB Hifi for less than $35 per season for the first 5 seasons.

For those of you not aware of what Rob Lowe is up to now, he is on a show called Brothers and Sisters. Because I don’t watch commercial TV I had never heard of this brothers and sisters show but it seems like I will have to add it to my must watch list. Callista Flockheart was always one of my favourites, I loved Ally Mcbeal, and now to team her up with Rob Lowe? I can tell without even knowing anything about the show that I will love it.

Here is a clip from The West Wing.

So, Rob Lowe joins Christian Slater as one of the men I love to watch. If you enjoyed this blog, you may also enjoy my movie reviews –

Men I Love To Watch, The West Wing

An a-ha secret..

Like any of us, the lead singer of a-ha Morten Harket can have an off day from time to time. If it happens to be a day when he is going to be singing live, this can turn into an absolute disaster – it happened at Live 8 when there were problems with the sound. He’s the kind of guy who really wants to get things right, and his distress when it doesn’t is always evident.

But when you release an album, you are sent on a seemingly endless round of tv shows to promote it. Many of these TV shows are not set up to actually cope with a live performance and they want you to *GASP* lip sync. For some performers this is not a bad thing. For Morten it seems to be pure torture. He can’t seem to look the crowd in the eye, it’s like he feels like he’s lying to them. He’s not really. The voice being played is his. He sang the song originally, and could easily sing it that day.

But those of us who are Morten fans know when he’s singing for real, and I’m going to now share with you the secret of why.

Looks like a nice photo, right? Well, the zoom in is what is important.

If these little earpieces are not in the ears, it isn’t him singing. And you’ll see him adjust them while he’s singing, so you can’t really miss the fact that they are there.

When Morten has a good day, he really has a fantastic day.

It’s never over..

The final episodes of the West Wing aired tonight on the ABC. It was unusual for an ending, because it was kind of an ending and a beginning in some ways, for most of the characters.

However it’s not really an ending because I am rewatching season 3, and the DVD’s are here on my shelf, and anytime I want I can revisit these characters and this incredible acting job they all did. And, I still have to get seasons 6 and 7 and watch them, so that’s something to look forward to as well.

I missed the sideshow, sadly. We went early to the Chinese but it is school holidays and for some reason our meal took twice as long as usual, and then the other half won $130 on the pokies. I’ve checked the guide and I can’t see that it gets repeated. ;(

Baiter baited!

It is no coincidence that we have a channel 419 on Austar. It is actually the World Movies channel. And it keeps baiting me into watching these movies which if they were in english, I wouldn’t touch with a barge pole. I

Some weeks ago I was flicking around and found I had to enter in a code to see the world movies channel due to an R rated film, which I have to say was one of the worst pieces of cinema I have ever had the misfortune to sit through. It involved a woman erotically licking peaches. There were four stories, I never made it through the first one, it was such shyte. It seems that you can make a movie about virtually anything as long as you throw a full frontal naked woman into it.

I don’t normally watch this channel at all, but late last night there was very little on tv, I was down in the other half’s room and it was too far to walk to get the next west wing dvd, and the description of the movie sounded interesting.

The movie was actually quite friendly, quirky, I liked it and I was surprised how much of the language I actually knew. Maybe I paid better attention in primary school than I thought. But they really picked the right thing to bait me, because much of the story was about the shoes this woman was wearing. I like shoes. I don’t like wearing them but I like to look at them on other people.

Another Saturday Night..

Another couple of West Wing episodes. And whoa, is about all I can say. This possibly blog won’t make a lot of sense to non-WW fans.

A few weeks ago Sephy was in the middle of the 2nd season, and I said to him something like, an episode will come to you as a surprise and you’ll know what I mean by that when it happens. The episode I was talking about in that case was 18th and Potomac, where they just out of nowhere, completely out of the blue, kill off a much loved character. In the episode after it, there is a point where the killed off character makes an appearance as a ghost, kind of, which also is much unexpected.

Tonight’s episode was another one of those but on a larger scale. And when they go into the funeral service, you see all the faces of people who seem to have gone their separate ways, doing their different jobs, some still at the whitehouse and others not, and the only face missing was Sam. I kept expecting to see him but he didn’t show up. Apparently he shows up next week.

There’s still a big gap between where my DVD box sets ran out and the show as it is today, and I am really looking forward to finding out how the show gets from there to the show I saw tonight.

Metallica is scary..

So, Saturday the people across the road and their kids spent two hours out on their front lawn playing sport of some kind, and along with it went two solid hours of constant yelling, screaming, shouting, crying, and various other annoying noises. I’m not joking when I say solid, they did not shut up once, and it was so loud I think the kids must have hurt their throats.

Apparently not, because on Sunday they were back for two hours more. And I was actually trying to sleep at the time, because I’d woken up with a headache from hell and spent the rest of the day trying to get rid of it by sleeping it off.

You can bet two hours of them yelling and screaming did not go down well with me. They’re lucky I didn’t go out there in my sleeping attire and do some yelling and screaming of my own.

Monday, the school bus got home, and within one minute the kids started yelling and screaming. Within ten minutes the whole family plus some extra random kids from around the neighborhood were out there. I still had a dull version of the headache from the day before, and tried to drown them out with a movie. One hour and forty minutes later, I snapped.

I stormed into the kitchen and grabbed the Metallica DVD that we have. I took it into the big lounge with the big stereo system (that I never turn up over 25) and loaded it in there. Enter Sandman. I turned the volume up to 10 and went into the kitchen to get some headache tablets.

When I got back just three minutes later, the subwoofer had danced across the floor all by itself, there’s some vicious drumming in that song, and when I looked out the window, there was nobody to be seen. Probably they all ran inside to read their bibles and hide from the satanic music. I think all the other neighbors were actually thrilled and possibly inspired as to how to get rid of them next time.

Later that evening we were summoned to my parents house, probably 800-1000 metres away. I told my Mum what I’d done, and she said “That was you?” damn, it must have been loud. ;)

And today, thankfully, no screaming people. If they come back, it’ll be Metallica in 10 minutes next time. It’s just so inconsiderate to make so much annoying noise. I rarely make any noise here, the stereo is always at a reasonable level and I go outside to make sure it isn’t too loud that it would annoy anyone.

They only got 5 minutes of how much noise I’m happy to produce on a regular basis if they want to keep it up. Plus if they really upset me, my parents have the subwoofer of champions just down the street which I could borrow. ;)

I really love Metallica, by the way, everything up to St Anger, and I think many of their songs are true classics. It’s even better when you watch the film clips. But the choices are not limited to that. I think a bit of Marilyn Manson might really freak them out. It makes one wonder, what music would I need to play in order to inspire them to move out completely?

Post 300

Yeah I wrote a lot. :)

In other news, over the last few days some kind of theme has popped up and I’m not really sure why. I caught a very fascinating doco/biography on one of the movie channels this morning. George Michael – A Different Story – which was really interesting and there was a lot of stuff I didn’t know. And the day before, I saw an episode of Morgan Spurlock’s 30 days. The show is a little difficult to explain, but the episode I saw they took a guy who was quite prejudiced against gay people, and he lived with a gay man as a room-mate for 30 days as well as moved to a place in San Francisco which has a large population of gay and lesbian people.

Now let me state right now, I have no issue with gay people at all. Lesbians, well I had a scary experience in which two very butch ladies pushed in front of me in the queue at the chicken shop recently. It was terrifying. They both had shaved heads, and they could have crushed my skull with their pinky fingers, more than likely. They clearly wanted chicken desperately, and who was I to stand in their way? Other than that, whatever people want to do in the privacy of their own bedroom is fine by me.

And I think marriage between two people who love each other should be fine regardless of who those people are or what sex they might be. And if two people who love each other want to walk down the street holding hands or showing affection, no problem. As long as they don’t strip off and get jiggy with it, and I’d object to that whether it was a guy and a girl or two guys or two girls, because I really don’t think sex in the streets is a wise idea. There’s broken glass, and stuff. You have to be careful. I wouldn’t even go barefoot, but that’s just me. Each to their own.

What I do have an issue with is prejudiced people. And I think shows like Morgan Spurlock’s show really can have an impact on people and their prejudices. If you get a chance to see it, in particular that episode, it was worth watching.

Because George Michael kept so much of his life private (which is entirely his right, by the way, and I fully support him doing that) I did not know many things about him. I grew up in the days of Wham, and like most girls totally adored him and I have to say have a new respect for him after watching that doco. Anyway, I found it interesting. :) Just thought I’d share.

Saturday Night West Wing

As many readers of this blog know, Saturday nights you get two episodes of the West Wing on the ABC. They’re up to halfway through Season 7 – yes that’s right viewers, only 5 more double episodes to the end of this show.

I happened to flick over and catch the second episode, named Duck and Cover. Given that I’m currently re-watching season one, and the highest I got before was season 5, a lot has apparently changed.

Donna has a fringe, was the most distracting change I spotted. It’s really distracting. Toby seems to be MIA. It looks like Josh and Donna don’t work in the whitehouse now. Yep, things have changed.

However there’s a lot of new people in the show, and I’m not sure what exactly is going on with Vinnick and Santos, whether they are both democrats running for the nomination or if one is a republican but I’m guessing Vinnick might be a republican from what I saw tonight and from the fact that election day is not far away, it’s probably too late for them both to be running for the nomination. Then again I have no clue how that part of US politics really works, and I haven’t seen those episodes yet to explain it to me.

Storyline is really important with this show. Miss one episode and you’re out in a boat in somewhat wavy water just trying to hang on, miss a season and a half and it’s like being in a major storm of confusion in a small aluminium dinghy.

But even so, the show has such grace and beauty in the writing and the acting, it truly is a joy to watch it even if you’re feeling seasick and confused. There’s no doubt. I’m in love with it, people. Do I want to spoil myself by spending the next 5 Saturday nights glued to the ABC? You bet. And I hear the last episode is really incredible.

Sephy is now an addict to the show as well, he’s halfway through season 2. I should try and catch him up so we can discuss the episodes, but he has no idea what is coming to him as a surprise over the remainder of Season 2. Just thinking about it makes my screen a little blurry.

And a couple of weeks ago I said Josh was my favourite, well it changes all the time. Right now I’m crazy about Sam too. And Leo’s Harrison Ford expressions (he does the loyal puppy face a lot, if you’re an Indiana fan, it’s the face Harrison Ford puts on just as he’s about to take that leap of faith in the Last Crusade) always get me on his side.
